Abstract

Papua New Guinea is a Third World country described by many as one in which the resource base has provided for a degree of 'subsistence affluence' in most areas, with its people obtaining sufficient food, adequate clothing and shelter as a result of relatively little effort. Over the past seventeen years Papua New Guinea has become a major mining country.
