The case of the missing refinery: Can Ghana attract foreign investments to integrate its aluminum industry?

Pages 21-27 | Published online: 02 Apr 2009

Abstract

What factors influence the decisions of a transnational aluminum company regarding the location of the intermediate processing facilities for the production of aluminum? For what reasons has an alumina refinery not as yet been constructed in Ghana pursuant to an investment agreement now more than twenty years old? David A Yamoah analyzes some of the key questions in the relationship between a host country and the transnational aluminium companies.
