Occupational Therapy in Uganda: Experience of developing a Rehabilitation Service

ABSTRACT

As occupational therapists (OTs), we believe that our profession has a unique and important role to play in the treatment and rehabilitation of people with disabling conditions. Being on a team of pioneers who are establishing the profession in Uganda, the author describes the personal experience of developing a rehabilitation service in a district hospital She outlines existing opportunities as well as problems caused by lack of resources, skilled personnel and understanding of the rehabilitation concept. Innovative solutions to the problems are discussed.
