Home modification programme for elderly home owners in Hong Kong

&

ABSTRACT

Home modifications have been shown to have a positive relationship with ageing-in-place (AIP). However, in Hong Kong, the public is not aware of the ‘age-friendly home’, as well as the role of occupational therapist in ‘home modification’ to facilitate AIP of elderly person. In 2013, a non-profit-making housing developer in Hong Kong launched a home modification programme in order to provide public education, consultation and home environment assessment to elderly homeowners. The programme aimed at increasing the public awareness on ‘age-friendly home environment’ and promoted the role of occupational therapist to provide a possible solution for elderly home owners to age-in-place by modifying their home environment.
