Abstract
The present study investigated the effects of shear slip on the deflection of composite beams. A theoretical formulation of the deflection for composite beams considering interface slip was derived. Further, the exact closed form characteristic equations for composite beams with interlayer slip are derived for the boundary conditions. Numerical simulations of simply supported beam subjected to different load cases were conducted. The analytical solutions show an excellent agreement with the numerical results. Finally, the proposed method was extended to analyse the deflection of the different pitch of shear connector composite beam and to some extent validate the mechanical sensitivity.

Pengzhen Lu is a Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Zhejiang University of Technology, PhD, Southwest Jiaotong University, 2006.3-2010.1. He has a broad interest in structural analysis and design, encompassing numerical modelling and experimental work. His major current interest is the modelling with finite elements of the linear and nonlinear behaviors of composite bridge. A parallel development is composite structural application, including the composite beam, prestressed composite beam, especially the calculation theory and analytical method for composite box beams. He also has another interest in special-shaped bridge, bridge evaluation and strengthening as there is an increasing number of old bridges in China.

He has a broad interest in structural analysis and design, encompassing numerical modelling and experimental work. His major current interest is the modelling with finite elements of the linear and nonlinear behaviours of concrete bridge. As a long-term direction, new material and new structure application are his major interest as well, such as new transportation system project under studying, named by him as AERORAIL system. He is now in charge of this project which is supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China.
