Manual assembly cells vs. sequential line

Pages 212-216 | Received 29 Sep 2014, Accepted 19 Jan 2015, Published online: 09 Nov 2015

Abstract

Manufacturing line efficiency is an important issue directly influencing the profitability and competitiveness on the market. Comparison shows efficiency advantages for the cell-based manual assembly line in comparison with sequential line. Downsides of the cell-based line configuration are increased capital cost, larger footprint and increased complexity of the manufacturing task on each station.
