Abstract

Al2O3 ceramic/Glass fibre-reinforced plastics are difficult to cut materials. Milling technology on component made of them is studied in this paper. First, influence of feed force, spindle speed and milling depth on milling efficiency was studied; then, influence of feed speed, spindle speed and milling depth on milling force was analysed; single-factor tests were also carried out to study milling force empirical formula. The results show: (1) feed force is the most significant factor influencing the efficiency, and is positively related with it, but overlarge feed force also lowers milling efficiency; influencing order is feed force > milling depth > spindle speed; (2) high milling efficiency and better processing quality can be achieved under 2600 r/min in spindle speed, 5 mm in milling depth and 770 N in feed force; (3) feed speed is the most significant factor influencing milling force and influencing order is feed speed > milling depth > spindle speed; and (4) milling force decreases with the increase in spindle speed, and increases when milling depth and feed speed increase.
