Abstract
For eliminating the picket fence effect innate to the fast Fourier transform (FFT), several schemes of the interpolated FFT (IpFFT) have been developed. Most IpFFTs are biased significantly for a short sine wave, which is due to the interference from the negative frequency component. In this paper, five approaches are compared, including one recently proposed by authors that can take into account the negative frequency component. It is demonstrated that our approach is the best among the compared approaches when sampling is close (but not equal) to the coherent condition.

Qing Huang received her BS and MS degrees from the Department of Communication and Control, Beijing Jiaotong University, Beijing, China, in 1995 and 1998, respectively. She is currently a lecturer at Beijing Jiaotong University and pursuing her PhD at the School of Electronic and Information Engineering. Her current research interests include signal processing, cognitive radio and next generation wireless networks.

Kui Fu Chen received his PhD in biomedical engineering from Peking Union Medical College in 2000. He was a post-doctorate at Oregon Health and Science University (from October 2002 to May 2004), and research associate in Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (May 2004 to August 2005). Now he is an associate professor in College of Sciences, China Agricultural University. He has published over 70 peer-reviewed papers.
