Pages 81-89 | Published online: 01 Nov 2012

Abstract

It is in situations of high inter-connectedness and complexity that computer models come into their own. The past two decades have witnessed the emergence of complex computer models in a range of disciplines and policy-relevant applications. This special section deals with the actual experiences of using models in assessing and making policy decisions, and reflects on the role of the social and policy context in influencing the evaluation, use and development of models.
