ABSTRACT
This special issue presents a series of conceptually interlinked papers on the construct of insightfulness and its role in child development and intervention. In this commentary, I provide some reflections on the nature of insightfulness from the point of view of developmental and clinical psychology. Four themes are highlighted: (1) the potential role of insightfulness in understanding the parenting mediators of attachment transmission, (2) the role of insightfulness in understanding the connections between early experiences and later social outcomes, (3) the dynamic evolution of insightfulness across development, and (4) the different elements of insightfulness and their distinct contributions to caregiving behavior.
