Lilian H. Zirpolo

Lilian H. Zirpolo received her Ph.D. in Art History from Rutgers University in 1994. Her recent publications include Caravaggio: A Reference Guide to His Life and Works (Lanham, MD, 2023); Michelangelo: A Reference Guide to His Life and Works (Lanham, MD, 2020). She is also the editor of Epistolary Discourse: Letters and Letter-Writing in Early Modern Art (Ramsey, NJ, 2019) and Esoteric Traditions and their Impact on Art (Ramsey, NJ, 2019). She has published a number of articles, mainly on art patronage and collecting and deformities and disabilities in art, in the Gazette des Beaux-Arts, Architectura: Zeitschrift für Geschichte der Baukunst, Drawing, The Woman’s Art Journal, The Seventeenth Century Journal, Augustinian Studies, and Open Inquiry Archive. Her interests include textiles depicted in art. Her article titled ‘(De)Constructing The Madonna’s Cloth of Honor: Pieced Cloths in Late Medieval Italian Paintings, Their Origins, and Iconographic Significance’ was published in the December 2021 issue of Explorations in Renaissance Culture.
