Foreword: Anti-hypertensive Pharmacotherapy

Dear Reader,

Thank you for joining us for our special focus in on pharmacotherapy for hypertensive disorders. This issue was inspired by the many numerous efforts made in the field to provide optimal therapeutic options for those who suffer from these various serious and significant conditions. Indeed, according to the CDC, in 2017, nearly half a million deaths were directly related to hypertension. More significantly, only 1 in 4 American adults have their hypertension under control [Citation1]. Therefore, more progress needs to be made to circumvent this illness.

Herein, this issue looks at various aspects of treatment for hypertensive disorders which include but are not limited to malignant hypertension, pulmonary hypertension and ocular hypertension. The issue also looks at the treatment of pre-eclampsia as well as the treatment of patients on dialysis who have hypertension. The issue also provides the reader with an exclusive interview with Professor Gregory Lip of the University of Liverpool, a top expert in the field. The goal is to provide our readers with a comprehensive and broad overview of the pharmacotherapy used for various forms of hypertensive disorder and draw on the insight of our expert authors.

I hope you find these articles of interest and insightful.

Best Regards,

David Grech
