Abstract
Ever since the May 4th Movement almost 60 years ago criticism of Confucius and Confucian ideology has been powerful. Since Liberation the debate on Confucius has been continued, and was especially voluminous in the late '50s and early '60s. In the fall of 1973 the debate picked up momentum again with the campaign to criticize Lin Biao and Confucius.
