Abstract
This film's story begins when Ms. Cruz arrives in a fishing village on the island of Marinduque. She is a short, dumpy, middle-aged woman dressed in black. She has come from Manila, which is about 200 miles away, to recruit young women for factory work. Ligaya, played by Hilda Koronel, is reluctant to go. She was born in the village and has a young male friend, Julio, played by Bembol Rocco, Jr., whom she's known since childhood. They are lovers. But she agrees to go. Her family is poor and by working she'll be able to help out her mother who is still nursing one of Ligaya's many siblings. Besides, she wants to see Manila.
