Flight 007: Was there foul play?

Abstract

On the night of August 31–September 1, 1983, a Boeing 747 belonging to Korean Air Lines was shot down by a Soviet fighter plane over Sakhalin Island after it had strayed off its assigned flight route connecting Anchorage and Seoul. All 269 aboard, 29 members of the flight crew and 240 passengers representing 15 nationalities including 18 children, were killed in the incident.
