Notes
1 The Great Sichuan earthquake, on May 12 2008, killed approximately 70,000 people and injured nearly 400,000 more. More than 5000 of the dead were school children who died, critics argued, because of shoddy building construction. On July 23 2011, two high-speed trains collided near Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, resulting in forty deaths and 192 injuries.
2 In 2013 the State Council dissolved the MOR and divided its duties between the Ministry of Transportation, State Railways Administration, and China Railway Corporation.
