Do education, sex, and age moderate the relationship of intelligence and creativity with sexual desire?

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationship between intelligence and creativity with sexual desire and the extent to which education, sex, and age moderate this relationship. In doing so, a total of 168 students (74 males and 94 females) aged 18–35 years (M = 23; SD = 3.58) were selected using convenience sampling from three universities in Tehran, Iran and they were asked to complete a set of measures including Raven's Progressive Matrices, Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking, and Hurlbert Index of Sexual Desire. Data analysis indicated that neither intelligence nor creativity was correlated with sexual desire. Moreover, current findings showed that education and sex did not moderate the relationship between intelligence and creativity with sexual desire, while there was a positive relationship between intelligence and sexual desire at older ages. These results suggest that sexual desire is not influenced by intelligence or creativity and only age moderates the relationship between intelligence and sexual desire.

Marzieh Barazandeh is graduated with a M.Sc degree in General Psychology, University of Tehran (2016). Her research interests focus on ISTDP and sexuality. This is her first paper accepted.

Mohammad Ali Besharat

Mohammad Ali Besharat, graduated with a PhD degree in Clinical Psychology, University of London (1997), is presently professor of clinical psychology at the University of Tehran. His research/clinical interests focus on Paradox Therapy for psychological disorders, personality disorders, couple's and family problems. Over a series of studies Dr. Besharat has also developed several psychological tests and observational measures. He has published more than 500 theoretical and empirical scientific publications in Farsi and English, including peer-reviewed articles, books and psychological tests. Professor Besharat is founder of the Institute of Paradox Therapy in Iran (2019). He was editor-in-chief of Contemporary Psychology (2006–2017). Here are some of his honours: 1. University of Tehran award for the best researcher in the field of Social Sciences (2004); 2. Scopus award for scientific contribution to the field of Social Sciences in Iran (2007); 3. National award for the best scientific researcher in the field of Social Sciences in Iran (2007); 4. University of Tehran award for the best researcher in the field of Social Sciences (2008); 5. National award for the best scientific researcher in the field of Social Sciences in Iran (2016).

Ali Moghadamzadeh
