Abstract
This article gives an account of a project at the Southampton Institute to develop a virtual 3D environment hosted on the Institute's Intranet site that would act as both a teaching and learning resource for the students on the newly validated MA Interactive Production (MAiP). The project developed in response to the growing need for those working within the traditional mass media industries to be able to exploit the potential of new interactive media in various spheres of production. Within each ‘studio’ strand, MAiP students produce interactive artefacts and place them in an intelligent, coherent environment accessible to MAiP participants over the Intranet and to others via the Internet.
