Preface

The ICM 2014 Satellite Conference on Dynamical Systems and Related Topics was held at Chungnam National University in Daejeon, Korea right before the International Congress of Mathematicians (Seoul ICM 2014) on August 8–12, 2014.

It was our pleasure that approximately 100 scholars from 19 countries participated, 48 excellent lectures were presented, and many valuable mathematical discussions took place in the conference. Taking this opportunity, we would like to thank all of the speakers and participants for their contributions.

For the proceedings of the conference, we selected 14 research papers from those contributed by the participants and are publishing them in this special issue of Dynamical Systems. We were pleasantly surprised to receive more high-quality submissions than expected, so two of the papers (by Diaz, Esteves, and  Rocha, and by Takahasi) will be presented in the next issue. We would like to express our gratitude to the editors of Dynamical Systems, Ale Jan Homburg, Todd Young and Matt Nicol, for their encouragement to publish these proceedings and for their help during their preparation.

Lastly we thank the organizing committee, local organizers, all members of the dynamical systems research group at CNU including graduate students for their efficient and outstanding work, and sponsors, National Institute for Mathematical Sciences (NIMS), BK 21 Math Vision 2020 Center, National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF), and Chungnam National University (CNU), for financial support for the conference.
