Counterinsurgency in Crisis: Britain and the Challenges of Modern Warfare

Notes

1 P6. This definition is going beyond both the British and the US Army definition of counterinsurgency which is defined in FM 3-24: p.2 JP I-O2 as: ‘those military, paramilitary, political, economic, psychological, and civic actions taken by a government to defeat insurgency’. The British definition adds: ‘while addressing the root causes’ in: British Army Field Manual, Vol.1, Part 10: Countering Insurgency, I-6, I-5.
