This special issue was first conceived in 2019, before the shocks and upheavals of the Covid-19 pandemic. It has been a long gestation and labour through seismic changes to our individual and collective lives, and like all successful bringings-to-life, it has been a community effort. We extend warmest thanks to the wonderful contributors who have made this issue what it is, and whose commitment never waned even through some long editorial silences. Thanks also to our reviewers, who were unfailingly generous with their time and effort during a period of unprecedented pressure on academic time.
