Julia Segal trained with Relate and has worked as a counsellor since 1983, in a self-help charity and in the NHS. In her writings she has tried to bring the ideas of Melanie Klein and other psychoanalysts to the general public. She is best known for her books Phantasy in Everyday Life (Penguin books 1985) and Melanie Klein: Key Figures in Counselling and Psychotherapy (Sage 2004). She has written two books based on nearly 40 years’ work with people with neurological illnesses: Helping Children with Ill or Disabled Parents (Jessica Kingsley 1996) and The Trouble with Illness (Jessica Kingsley 2017) as well as numerous articles and reviews.
