PEDRO DE VALENCIA'S LETTER TO GÓNGORA (1613)

Pages 90-91 | Published online: 21 Sep 2007

Notes

1Another copy of this letter is mentioned by Luis Fernández-Guerra y Orbe, in D. Juan Ruiz de Alarcón y Mendoza (Madrid 1871), note 492 to p. 506 : “ Pedro de Valencia, coronista de S.M. : Censura de las Soledades, Polyfemo, y obras de D. Luis de Góngora, hecha a su instancia ; en Madrid, 30 de junio de 1613. MS original en poder del autor ”. This has since disappeared from view. It can hardly have been in Pedro de Valencia's hand, but was probably a copy (of the letter actually sent to Góngora) made by one of the Cordobese friends of the poet, such as Díaz de Rivas.
