Identifying success in the application of information and communication technology as a curriculum teaching and learning tool

Pages 95-106 | Published online: 18 Feb 2007

Abstract

This research seeks to identify generic factors that have contributed to the successful integration of information and communication technology (ICT) across the curriculum in the secondary section of an international school in Brazil. The research took a case‐study approach, focusing on one ‘successful’ department to identify characteristics which may have contributed to its uptake and development of the use of ICT. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews. The features most strongly linked to the success of this department were the positive attitude towards ICT from the staff and their willingness to learn and venture into unfamiliar territory. The main barriers were often associated with a range of hardware issues.
