Abstract

In Technology Enhanced Learning Environments, self‐regulated learning (SRL) partly relies on the features of the technological tools. The authors present two environments they designed in order to facilitate SRL: the first one (e‐Dalgo) is a website dedicated to the learning of algorithms and computer programming. It is structured as a classical course but also provides students with self‐evaluation tools and forums. The second environment (the MEMORAe project) is structured on the basis of the concepts of a domain (for example a statistics and probability course). Students have access not only to course notions and related resources but also to different kinds of memories and communication tools that are also based on the domain concepts. The authors' empirical evaluations of the two environments showed that, though very different in their approaches, both appear to be quite efficient regarding cognitive aspects, but social aspects are more difficult to observe and to foster.
