The Art of Psychological Contact: The psychotherapy of a mentally retarded psychotic client / Die Kunst psychologischen Kontakts: Die Psychotherapie einer geistig behinderten, psychotischen Klientin / El arte del Contacto Psicológico: La psicoterapia de un consultante psicótico retardado mental

Abstract

Rogers suggests that ‘psychological contact’ is the first condition of a therapeutic relationship. Perls suggests that contact is an ‘ego function’. Evolving from these suggestions, Pre-Therapy is the theory and practice of psychological contact. Early work in Pre-Therapy focused on mentally retarded or psychotic clients. This paper is a case study and commentary featuring the therapeutic work of the first author, German psychologist Barbara Krietemeyer, with introduction and commentary by the second author, Garry Prouty, the developer of Pre-Therapy. The case history demonstrates the application of contact with a severely regressed, psychotic/retarded woman. This facilitated the client's movement into a therapeutic relationship, resulting in considerable symptom reduction. More importantly, it enabled the client to live much more satisfactorily in the institution.

Rogers nimmt an, dass “psychologischer Kontakt” die erste Bedingung für eine therapeutische Beziehung ist. Perls geht davon aus, dass Kontakt eine “Ich-Funktion” ist. Aus diesen Vorgaben entstand die Prä-Therapie als die Theorie und die Praxis psychologischen Kontakts. Frühe prä-therapeutische Arbeit konzentrierte sich vor allem auf geistig behinderte oder psychotische Klienten. Dieser Artikel ist eine Fallstudie und ein Kommentar, der die therapeutische Arbeit der ersten Autorin, der deutschen Psychologin Barbara Krietemeyer, vorstellt mit einer Einführung und einem Kommentar durch den zweiten Autor, Garry Prouty, der die Prä-Therapie entwickelt hat. Die Fallgeschichte demonstriert die Anwendung von Kontakt mit einer schwer regredierten, psychotischen/retardierten Frau. Dies erleichterte, dass sich die Klientin in eine therapeutische Beziehung hinein bewegen konnte, und resultierte in einer beträchtlichen Reduzierung der Symptome. Was noch wichtiger ist: Es ermöglichte der Klientin, viel befriedigender in der Institution zu leben.

Los trabajos iniciales en la Pre-Terapia se focalizaron en personas psicóticas o retardadas mentales. Este artículo es un estudio de caso y un comentario, y toma el trabajo terapéutico de la psicóloga alemana Barbara Krietemeyer, con una introducción y un comentario hechos por Garry Prouty, la persona que desarrolló la Pre-Terapia. Esta historia de caso demuestra la aplicación del contacto con una mujer psicótica/retardada en un estado de regresión severa. Éste facilitó su movimiento hacia una relación terapéutica, resultando en una considerable reducción del síntoma. Aún más importante, le permitió vivir en la institución de un modo mucho más satisfactorio.
