Literary Translation and the Idea of a Minor Romania

Notes

1 NB: Cotter refers to the Soviet imposed system as Communism, but this is overly simplistic in itself. The Stalinist system that was imposed on Eastern Europe in the wake of the Second World War had very little to do with Communism in the Marxist sense. At the same time it is evident from his use of the word ‘Communism’ that he is in thrall to an uncritical, McCarthy-esque interpretation of Communism as something so evil that merely opposing it is sufficient for the rehabilitation of ex-Fascists.
