Ruth Bingham obtained her first degree (BSc Natural Sciences with Chemistry and Earth Sciences) from the Open University, a Master's degree in Chemistry from the University of York and a PhD in Materials Science (Corrosion and Protection) from The University of Manchester. She worked as a postdoc for three years at the University of Leeds and is now working as a freelance writer/editor/proofreader. She specialises in proofreading and correcting scientific documents for students writing in English as a second language.

David Nuttall graduated in Metallurgy (University College, Cardiff). He worked for Henry Wiggin & Co Limited (Hereford) as a Metallurgist. Subsequently, he gained his MSc (Science of Materials) and PhD (Solid State Electrochemistry). Then, he worked as a Research Scientist for Taylor Servomex plc, Crowborough, East Sussex, afterwards, Corrosion Scientist for British Gas plc. Later, as a Conservation Scientist at National Maritime Museum, Greenwich. He has tutored Materials Technology for the OU Summer School at UMIST (BSc-Level) and Medical Students Level 3 Chemistry (Medipathways). He secured an MSc in Corrosion Engineering at Imperial College and City University. He has tutored extensively in ‘A’-Level Physics and Chemistry and has authored several books on ‘A’-Level Physics. He has currently set up and run Independent Corrosion Solutions.
