Flexibility of nanotubes

Pages 253-258 | Received 06 Feb 2003, Accepted 07 Apr 2003, Published online: 21 Feb 2007

Abstract

Experimental observations of static bending and flexural vibration modes in nanotubes are reviewed in the light of recent statements, linked to density functional theory simulations, that such modes do not exist. The evidence for flexural modes at wavelengths long compared with the diameter of the nanotube is overwhelming.
