ABSTRACT

Ground state and first excited state binding energies of a hydrogenic donor in a near triangular quantum Well (NTQW) composed of GaAs/Ga1-xAlxAs are calculated variationally as a function of well width and Al concentration. Photo-ionisation cross-section of the donor is also investigated as a function of photon energy, well width and Al concentration. Our results reveal that the peak value of photo-ionisation cross-section shows a turnover at the well width at which the binding energy is a maximum and at the Al concentration of 0.3. Photo-ionisation shows a strong dependence on well width, Al concentration and photon energy in NTQW than in other nanostructures.
