Abstract

A study was made of the intensity of scattering of monochromatic x-rays at small angles from a copper-base solid solution containing 15 at. % aluminium. The intensity of scattering from a rolled foil was found to increase after heating at 150–250°c, a temperature range in which the alloy hardens, and there is little or no recrystallization. This increase is attributed to segregation of aluminium to the ribbons of stacking fault between partial dislocations. Various confirmatory tests were performed to check the validity of this conclusion.
