Void growth during secondary creep

Abstract

The reversibility of void growth during the secondary stage of high temperature creep has been investigated. It is shown that a period of compressive creep, after first straining for various times under tensile creep conditions, has no effect on the resulting behaviour on returning to tension and continuing the tests to fracture. The results suggest that vacancy absorption does not make a significant contribution to the growth of voids during secondary creep.
