The dispiration: A distinct new crystal defect of the weingarten-volterra type

Pages 0949-0952 | Received 15 Jul 1970, Published online: 20 Aug 2006

Abstract

Dislocations and disolinations in crystals are described in part by trans-lational and rotational symmetry operations respectively of the perfect crystal. A third type of Weingarten-Volterra defect, the dispiration, which depends on the presence of screw symmetries in the perfect crystal is introduced and defined. The dispiration completes the classification of crystal defects of the Weingarten-Volterra type.
