Abstract
The Compton profiles of single crystal Mno and polycrystalline scandium were measured with Ag Kα x-radiation. The momentum distribution for scandium follows very closely a valence electron configuration 3d24s (free electron) and difers considerably from a 3d3 configuration. While the profile for MnO is more closely approximated by a superposition of Mn+2 + O−2 as compared to a superposition of Mn° + 0° it still shows appreciable solid state broàdening. The anisotropy in MnO was small, < 3%.
