Dislocation mobility and work hardening in sodium chloride

Pages 265-271 | Received 08 May 1972, Published online: 20 Aug 2006

Abstract

Stress relaxation has been used in an indirect determination of the velocity—stress exponent for dislocation motion in NaCl at room temperature. The long-range internal stress arising from plastic deformation has been estimated and it is shown to be the principal source of hardening in both stage I and stage II of plastic deformation.
