The variation of plasma energy loss with composition in dilute Al-Ag alloys

Abstract

Measurements of the plasma energy loss in aluminum alloys containing up to ∼ 6 at.% silver are described. The observed slow increase in energy loss as the content of silver increases cannot be explained in terms of a rigid band model of alloying. A simple theory including inter band transitions from the silver atoms has been fitted to the results but this requires some of these transitions to be different from those in pure silver.
