Abstract
By etching the (111) faces of natural magnetite crystals in the laboratory, an etch pattern was produced which was similar in every respect to the natural pattern observed on (111) faces of diamond. It is suggested that the trigons naturally observed on diamond are etch trigons resulting from natural dissolution.
