1. The authors use Discourse with a capital D based on Gee's (Citation1999) distinction between Discourse and discourse. As they write, “we use Discourse … to reference communication patterns that reflect ways of being and knowing, that are related to one's identity, as opposed to discourse with a small d that references conversations or talk that one uses without its strong connection to identity” (p. 15).
