Abstract

Infectious complications following gastro-intestinal surgery can be reduced with properly administered antimicrobial agents. One single preoperative dose of doxycyline (200mg) and tinidazole (2g) gave a highly significant reduction of infectious complications in a controlled clinical study of 307 patients undergoing elective gastrointestinal surgery.
