Speaking of My Penis: Review of Private Dicks

Abstract

Private Dicks is a 55-minute film by Meema Spadola and Thom Powers that won the 2002 Outstanding Achievement Award from the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality. It, like their earlier Breasts, was first broadcast on HBO, and it is now available on video. In the video, more and less naked men talk sense and some nonsense about their penises; in this review Mr. Caldwell, whose novel Love Note is about his problematic rediscovery of genital sensation after a spinal cord injury, adds a few words of his own.
