Abstract
The Bonds of Love, by Jessica Benjamin (Citation1988), is a book written with both the structure and spirit of contemporary psychoanalysis. Any analyst interested in the analytic process as an evolving discipline will have read it, been impacted by it, and been transformed, even in ways unconscious. This article follows my personal and professional evolution as I trace a trajectory through retrospective, current and prospective lenses. I have selected some favorite excerpts from The Bonds of Love and describe my own transformation in response to each. The article reveals a continuous dialogue with Jessica as I discuss how my past and present have been impacted by this elegant book.
