Another Eden: Proto-Gay Desire and Social Precocity

Pages 112-121 | Published online: 31 May 2013

Abstract

Beginning with associations on its own origins, this essay reflects on the precocity of “proto-gay” children, those born in the shadow of Stonewall, whose sexuality already imagined a different future. It postulates that there are multiple points of origin for reconstructing what we conventionally call the preoedipal “past.”

Notes

1Of or relating to names; the study of names. An irresistible word in an essay on precocity.
