Notes
1 The TI was founded by Mordecai Kaplan at the direction of Solomon Schechter in 1909; this was soon after Schechter became president of JTS. Its functions eventually were assumed by the William Davidson Graduate School of Jewish Education on the one hand and the Seminary’s List College, the undergraduate program conducted in tandem with Columbia University and Barnard College, on the other.
2 Although each article had a different subtitle the articles in turn came to be known as “The Practical” followed by a number.
3 I have discussed the birth of the Melton Bible curriculum and Fox’s role in more detail elsewhere. See Holtz (Citation2011).
