Palliative Sedation, Physician-Assisted Suicide, and Euthanasia: “Same, Same but Different”?

Pages 62-64 | Published online: 13 Jun 2011

Notes

See for this definition, the importance of proportionality and of a broad understanding of palliative sedation, among others, Broeckaert (2000; 2002) and CitationBroeckaert and Nuñez-Olarte (2002). This definition was adopted by the Federation Palliative Care Flanders (Federatie Palliatieve Zorg Vlaanderen 2006) and the Spanish Society for Palliative Care. It strongly influenced the definitions of the Swiss Society for Palliative Medicine and Palliative Care and of the American National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (CitationKirk et al. 2010).
