Getting the Story Straight: Clinical Ethics as a Distinctive Field

This article refers to:
Were the “Pioneer” Clinical Ethics Consultants “Outsiders”? For Them, Was “Critical Distance” That Critical?

Notes

1. From κλινικός, ‘pertaining to a bed'

2. This is probably a unique American phenomenon. In most European countries, physicians have resisted such “outside” invasion into the clinic and so-called “clinical ethics” remain in fact largely under the physicians' control. In France, the word “ethicist” does even not exist and the French Canadian “ethicien” starts only to be used.
