Social Reproductive Labor, Gender, and Health Justice

This article refers to:
Shrinking Poor White Life Spans: Class, Race, and Health Justice

Notes

1 . The exploitation of socially reproductive labor runs through not just patriarchal institutions, but also through the history of linked systems of chattel slavery and racial capitalism. For a very brief discussion of race and social reproduction, see Fraser (Citation2016b, 110–111, 114).

2 . Rai, Hoskyns, and Thomas (Citation2014) define depletion through social reproduction “as the level at which the resource outflows exceed resource inflows in carrying out social reproductive work over a threshold of sustainability, making it harmful for those engaged in this unvalued work” (88–89).
