An automatic cycler/charger for nickel-cadmium batteries

Pages 542-545 | Published online: 04 Jun 2010

Abstract

Nickel-cadmium rechargeable batteries are not particularly well-suited for infrequent and/or light-duty service because of the “memory effect” inherent in their design. Batteries in equipment which is used in such a manner should be subjected to periodic deep discharge in order to maintain full rated capacity. A device which provides an optimum charge/discharge cycle is described. Also described is a technique for restoring defective cells.
