Abstract

Lacinilene C 7-methyl ether (LCME) was extracted from cotton dusts and related materials and quantitated by normal phase high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Content was affected by type of sample analyzed and by laboratory milling of particular samples prior to extraction. Exhaustive diethyl ether and hexane Soxhlet extraction methods are more efficient and effective than is the water extraction-ether partiti'on commonly used to remove LCME. Levels of LCME in leaf removed by ether Soxhlet extraction and acetonitrile extraction-hexane partition techniques are similar; however, the ether method is less variable.
