Unbiased Passive Sampling

Pages 237-239 | Published online: 04 Jun 2010

Abstract

Unbiased passive sampling can be achieved by capping the sampler with an impervious sorbent material following the sampling period. The degree of bias that could otherwise occur is in theory unlimited but in practice controlled by the ratio of the peak concentration to the mean concentration. The so called “startup period” for a passive sampler is shown to be the normal time lag between the input and response in a diffusion controlled system.
