Abstract
The present method is based on the diazotization of benzidine and its subsequent coupling with 8-hydroxyquinoline. The red colored dye so formed in alkaline medium is extracted into 3-methyl-l-butanol. The Beer's law is obeyed in the range of 0.03 to 0.30 µg/mL. The molar absorptivity and Sandell's sensitivity are 6.4×104 L/mol/cm and 0.0026 µg/cm2 respectively. Other reaction conditions and analytical parameters were also studied.
